Cable network problems caused by HDTV demandEscalating demand for bandwidth-hungry services such as HDTV and online gaming is gradually leading to a critical lack of capacity in cable operator networks.

Several solutions are available and, according to a study from ABI Research, collectively they will account for some $80 billion worldwide in investment over the next five years.

“Cable TV operators trying to satisfy the increasing bandwidth demands of HDTV customers feel very much like the thrifty grocer who tried to cram ten pounds of potatoes into a five-pound bag,” says vice president and research director Stan Schatt.

“The increasing bandwidth demands on cable operators will soon reach crisis stage, yet this is a ‘dirty little industry secret’ that no one talks about.”

Onkyo DV-HD805 HD DVD player introductionONKYO USA has announced its first HD-DVD player, the Onkyo DV-HD805. It is one of the first HD DVD players to take advantage of high-bit-rate audio streaming via HDMI version 1.3a. The DV-HD805 will be available in the fall of 2007.

The new Onkyo DV-HD805 is designed to partner with Onkyo’s 2007 Audio/Video receiver line-up. Both the HD DVD player and the A/V receivers feature HDMI version 1.3a connections, making the combination of these components a nice platform for high-definition 1080p video images. XBOX 360 and HDMI FAQAlmost on a daily basis we receive questions about the availability of a HDMI connection on the regular XBOX 360 and many rumours circulate on this subject.

That’s why we decided to check with Microsoft for the formal answers to frequently asked questions about the XBOX 360 and HDMI.

As announced earlier the XBOX 360 Elite will arrive with HDMI connection but in this FAQ we focus on the regular XBOX 360.
