Philips BDP7100 Blu-ray player introduction
Philips is extending its Blu-ray range with the Philips BDP7100 Blu-ray player. It shows Philips’ continued support for Blu-ray, as founding member of the Blu-ray Disc Association and pioneer in high-definition technology.
The Philips BDP7100 brings 1080p true high definition pictures, and brilliant imagery. Rich surround sound is heightened with Dolby TrueHDTM and DTS HD High Resolution AudioTM multi-channel audio decoding and digital audio optical outputs. Being able to playback a current collection of CD and DVD and enhancing the picture quality of DVDs by upscaling them to 1080p is a major attraction to consumers who, as they migrate to HDTV sets, find that standard DVDs do not offer the HD content they expect.
The Philips BDP7100 supports native 24fps cinematic resolution input via HDMI, which is the same format used in movies. In addition, HDMI CEC function allows the control of other devices with one remote*. Philips’ Blu-ray Disc player delivers on the HD promise with pristine 1080p picture quality. Java brings interactivity and graphical enhancements, and there is a choice of seven languages for On-screen Display including English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Dutch and Portuguese.
Philips continues to play an integral role in the development and introduction of the Blu-ray format. Blu-ray Disc has the support of more than 170 companies including virtually all major CE manufacturers and PC manufacturers, seven of the eight major Hollywood studios (which are responsible for nearly all current DVD sales), and the leading games developers and music labels.
Blu-ray solutions are the answer to an evolution in HD entertainment and digital archiving, providing massive amounts of storage. For instance, Philips’ single-layer 25GB1 Blu-ray Disc holds multiple hours of HD video, 12 hours of standard definition DVD quality content, or 360 hours of MP3 music.
Such Blu-ray Disc capacity enables the playback of full-length feature movies using MPEG2 encoding – the native compression technique for HDTV broadcasts – or even more capacity
with advanced codecs such as AVC and Windows Media Video HD (VC-1). It is the only recording format providing 25 GB of storage on a single-layer disc and 50 GB on a dual-layer disc.
The BDP7100 Blu-ray Disc player is available now. Philips is also now shipping 25 GB, single-layer recordable (BD-R) and single-layer recordable and erasable (BD-RE) Blu-ray Discs.
